Maharashtra | Rain and hailstorm hit 12 districts; lightning kills 3 in Vidarbha; heavy damage to crops

Aurangabad/Nagpur/Akola :  deccan express  – Maharashtra | Unseasonal rains and hailstorm lashed parts of Vidarbha and Marathwada on Tuesday, causing heavy damage to life and property. Three persons lost their lives due to lightning in Vidarbha. (Maharashtr)

Akola, Washim, Buldana, Nagpur, Amravati, Wardha, Bhandara, Gondia, Yavatmal districts in Vidarbha were hit by rain and hailstorm. Aurangabad, Jalna and Ahmednagar districts in Marathwada were also hit. (Maharashtra)

In Dhamangaon Railway taluka in Vidarbha, one farmer lost his life while a child fell prey to lightning in Bhandara district. India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted rain in Aurangabad, Jalna, Parbhani, Nanded, Wardha, Nagpur, Chandrapur, Gondia and Gadchiroli districts.

Several flights from Nagpur airport were temporarily suspended due to dense fog.

Crops destroyed

The Rabi crops have been completely damaged by rain and hailstorm in Vidarbha and Marathwada adding to the woes of farmers. Fruits and vegetables too have been destroyed. Wheat, soyabean, corn, onions are rotten due to the rain.

Marathwada badly hit

Paithan, Gangapur and Vaijapur talukas in Aurangabad district have been affected by unseasonal rain and hailstorm. Rains also lashed Sillod and Kannad taluka.

Bhokardan taluka in Jalna district was hit by rain while an ox died due to lightning in Walsavangi.

Onion and other crops and vegetables were destroyed in Srirampur taluka in Ahmednagar.
