State records 52 deaths caused due to the rare fungal disease ‘Mucormycosis’

While the number of COVID-19 positive patients is declining, now 52 people have died in the state due to the rare fungal disease Mucormycosis. Some have lost their eyesight. This disease needs to be treated in time.

In some districts of Western Maharashtra and Konkan, no case of Mucormycosis has been reported. These include Kolhapur, Sangli, Satara, Raigad and Sindhudurg districts. Meanwhile, about a thousand patients were found in various hospitals and dental clinics in Pune, while 13 people have died. The government hospital in Solapur is treating three patients with nose injuries and two with eye diseases. Doctors have 40 patients seeking treatment.

In KEM, Nair, Sion Municipal Hospitals in Mumbai, the number of diagnoses of Mucormycosis patients has increased. Ramesh Bharmal said that 2 to 3 patients were found and one eye of 12 patients was removed.

Hundreds of people in North Maharashtra have been infected with Mucormycosis . Five people have died in Nashik district till now. Currently, no new patients have been admitted to government hospitals. On the other hand, 13 patients have been found in Jalgaon district and six have died. Various surgeries have been performed on more than 50 patients. Importantly, a new writing has been found in this disease, which is piercing the scalp. 18 patients were found in Ahmednagar district.

In Nagpur, new cases of Mucormycosis are being diagnosed every day. 20 to 25 patients are being registered every week. In the last three months, 35 patients from private and government hospitals have undergone surgery to remove one eye. In four months, 49 patients were registered in government dental colleges and hospitals. Eight patients have undergone successful surgery in Amravati. Currently, five patients have been admitted. Shrikant Mahalle said. In Yavatmal district, seven patients underwent surgery.

In Marathwada also, patients with mucormycosis have been found. According to Additional District Surgeon Kamlakar Mudkhedkar, In Aurangabad, 24 people have died of mucormycosis , 13 have had their eyes removed, while 96 have undergone surgery on their jaw and 45 patients due to their sinus. More than 120 patients have been found in Nanded district and five in 15 days in Majalgaon in Beed.
