Pune : Deccan Express – The PMC has sealed the shops on the footpath near the Cline School in Bibvewadi Gaothan. PMC Encroachment Department Head Madhav Jagtap said that the shops had been seized despite the owners having licences for stalls, because of illegal construction.
On behalf of the civic body, various stall owners have been rehabilitated on the footpath near the Cline School. There were 51 stalls there. Four years ago, the stalls were removed and shops were constructed. The PMC had received complaints that the shops had been built in an illegal manner. A probe was carried out and it was suggested that cases should be filed against the guilty and the shops should be demolished. Hence, for last four years, the PMC has not collected the rent from the shop owners. On Monday, the civic authorities sealed all the shops today.
Apart from these shops, 16 shops at the Panchdeep Bhavan near ESI Hospital Pune have also been sealed. Jagtap said that the shops had been sealed because of reasons like pending dues, giving stalls on rent and violation of rules.
The civic officials are carrying out checking of licences issued to hawkers and stall owners. It is necessary that the person to whom the licence has been issued, should carry out the business. However, at many places, it has been found that some stall owners had sublet the stalls to others. Jagtap said that the civic body had decided to cancel the licences of those stall owners who had sublet their stalls.
