Pune : deccan express – Riding a bike without a helmet has surely become a very expensive matter for the citizens. In the last one year alone, Pimpri Chinchwad traffic police have taken the highest action against two-wheeler riders without helmets. In the last one year, 85,000 two-wheelers have been fined without helmets and a fine of Rs 4.25 crore has been collected from them.
Various measures are being taken by the Traffic Police under Pimpri-Chinchwad Police Commissionerate to make people follow traffic rules. Unruly drivers are being penalized through e-challans. However, some riders are still ignoring the traffic rules. This causes accidents, traffic jams and people’s life can be in danger if not following the road safety rules. The traffic police are taking action against such miscreants. Last year as well, the police took action against two-wheelers without helmets and collected fines of Rs 3.45 crore. Plus, a fine of Rs 2.68 crore has been recovered from the citizens violating the speed limit.
The traffic police have also penalized people for unauthorized driving, driving without a license, driving after the license expired, unwarranted honking, uninsured vehicle, speed violation, triple seat, number plate tampering, silencer, no mirror, no belt, black glass, driving in the opposite direction, signal jumping, talking on the phone while driving and making illegal changes in the vehicle.
“Unruly drivers raise the question of safety for themselves and others. Therefore, every driver must follow the traffic rules. Action against such drivers will continue and emphasis is being laid on recovery of fines”, said Anand Bhoite, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Traffic, Pimpri Chinchwad.
