Pune : Deccan Express – PUNE NEWS | The father-daughter duo of Pimpri-Chinchwad scaled Mount Elbrus, the highest peak in Europe. At an altitude of 5642 meters, 12-year-old Girija Landage and her father Dhanaji Landage have made a daring and successful move to climb Mount Elbrus. Girija becomes the first girl in India to do so.

Climbing Mount Elbrus is not easy. The weather in Europe and India is very different and both father-daughter have achieved this after lots of hard work. Dhanaji Landage said that Mount Elbrus is considered to be the highest peak in Europe. The mountain is also known as the Dormitory Volcano. The temperature there is minus 25 to 40 degrees. ‘Mount Elbrus’ climbers require proper training, hard work. Extreme cold and wind gusts are commonplace. The atmosphere here keeps changing. Therefore, one has to choose this campaign only after physical and mental preparation.

Dhanaji further said that Girija is the first girl from Maharashtra and India to climb the peak. In a total of 10 days of expedition, we both practiced at altitudes of 3100 meters, 3800 meters and then 4800 meters from 22nd to 25th to balance the atmosphere. Then, on the 26th at three in the morning, the climbing began and at seven in the morning, it was successful. We tried to climb to the peak in 15 hours using both east and west routes. However, the peak could not be successful from both sides due to bad weather. The climbing was successful at 5642 meters west. Girija is the first girl to reach this peak and this is the first time the father-daughter duo has done so. Through this campaign, Girija has given the message of ‘Save the girl, raise the girl’. She has dedicated this campaign to all the girls and grandparents.

Girija has so far climbed difficult peaks like Lingana, Wazir Sulka, Tailbail, Nagfani, Kalkarai, Sunday-1, Sunday-2, Vanarlingi in Sahyadri. In addition, she has toured 65 forts in Maharashtra including Nashik district. Her ascent to Lingana and Vazir is recorded in Unique Book of World Records and India Book of Records as the youngest climber.
