Pune news | Pune Municipal Corporation seals 450 commercial properties for defaulting on property tax payment

Pune : deccan express   Pune news |  The civic administration has launched a drive to take action against commercial properties, against which there has been outstanding property tax bills in the city. This comes in the backdrop of the ruling BJP’s decision to launch an amnesty scheme for property tax defaulters. ( Pune news )

Property tax outstanding bills amounting to around Rs 2,880 crore are due from four lakh property owners in the city. Under the amnesty scheme, 75 percent concession is given in the penalty amount. Yet the PMC got only Rs 485 crore revenue on account of property tax last year.

The standing committee decided to implement the amnesty scheme from December 20 to January 26. However, Municipal Commissioner Vikram Kumar has not approved it as yet. In fact, the civic administration has started acting against the defaulters. It was learnt that every inspector of the property tax division has been assigned a target of sealing at least five properties daily.

Around 150 properties belonging to businessmen are being sealed daily after the drive started three days ago. “Sealing commercial properties for defaulting on property tax is usually done. The action has been intensified now. Around 450 commercial properties have been sealed in the past three days. Rs 25 crore property tax was outstanding against them. Some property owners have given post-dated cheques amounting to Rs 3 crore,” said Additional Municipal Commissioner Dr Kunal Khemnar.
