The incident occurred between December 8 and 28. The accused Khalilullaha Aiyanulla Khan called up in the police control room and introduced himself as Vijay Singh, CP of Ahmedabad. He asked for contact details of Pimpri Chinchwad CP. He was given the details. He called up again saying the CP did not respond and said that he wanted to give information about a deal of pistols in Pimpri Chinchwad and asked for contact numbers of DCP Crime Branch and ACP. He got the numbers from the control room.

He again called up and asked for the contact details of Police Inspector Devendra Chavan from the social security department and PSI Dr Ashok Dongre. He called up Dongre who shared the contact number of PSI Pradipsingh Sisode with the accused. The accused told Sisode that he was an informer and informed about the secret deal of 4-5 pistols which was to take place in Pimpri Chinchwad. He also sent photographs to convince the police and demanded Rs 15,000. The bank details he sent to the police were in the name of Khalilullaha Aiyanullaa Khan.
