Pune : deccan express – The third wave of pandemic has hit the aviation sector. Around 20-25 flights are getting cancelled daily at the Lohegaon airport. Airlines are cancelling flights as the number of passengers is declining. (Pune Lohegaon Airport)
Around 70-75 flights were operating daily at the Lohegaon airport till recently. Now, 40-45 flights are operating. Most of the cancelled flights are Delhi and Jaipur-bound.
Usually, the number of air travellers grows during winter. However, fliers are avoiding to travel due to rising Covid-19 cases across the country. Some airlines are cancelling flights as only 5-7 seats are booked on such flights. Cancellation of 20-25 flights is also affecting other sectors. Around 17,000-18,000 air passengers were recorded daily some days ago. The number has dwindled down to 11,000-13,000.
Confirming the scenario, Pune Airport Director, Santosh Doke said, “Airlines are cancelling their flights as the number of passengers has been decreasing for some days now. The main reason behind this is a rising number of Covid-19 cases.”|
