Pune :  deccan express  – | Five buffaloes belonging to a farmer died after electrocution in Panshet in Velhe taluka on Wednesday. The buffaloes were worth Rs five lakh and the family is now staring at starvation.

The buffaloes belonged to Dilip Sonba Jagde of Vanjalwadi village. Jagde’s father was taking the buffaloes for grazing and the buffaloes were electrocuted in font of him. Showing alertness, he stepped away and told the passers-by to stay away from the spot which ensured that there was no human casualty.

Officials of MSEDCL’s Panshet division and animal husbandry department rushed to the spot and carried out a panchnama. Special invited member of MSEDCL Sunil Gaikwad has demanded that the farmer should be given compensation as per the rules.

Engineer of MSEDCL’s Panshet division Nitin Dhas said a wire from the iron pole fell on the ground. The buffaloes who were passing by, received a shock leading to their death. The wires on the pole are in good condition and a buffalo may have banged into the pole which may have led to the falling of the wire, he said.

Farmer Dilip Jagde said the electricity wire had already fallen on the road. “My grandfather Sonba Jagde was taking the buffaloes for grazing when the buffalo in the front received a shock. She cried out in pain and another buffalo approached it but it also received a shock. Like this, the five buffaloes received a shock and they died after letting out a loud cry.”

The veterinary officer of Panshet, Dr Adesh Nikam carried out the post-mortem. According to the market rates, each buffalo was worth Rs one lakh and the farmer has suffered a loss of Rs 5 lakh.
