Pune : deccan express – Pune crime |An incident of charging 15-20 percent interest per day and then recovering a penalty of Rs 10,000 for non-payment of interest has been reported. Since this amounted to demanding ransom, the anti-extortion squad of the Pune police has arrested the moneylender.
The accused has been identified as Vinod Ram Shinde (56), a resident of Rasta Peth. Piyush Shah lodged a complaint in this regard. According to the police, Shah had taken a loan of Rs 2 lakh from Shinde in June 2020. An interest of 15-20 percent per month was charged on it. Shah paid him interest amounting to Rs 2.80 lakh between June 2020 and September 2021.
Later, Shah could not pay the monthly instalment. Later, Shinde demanded Rs 10,000 per day and a penalty of Rs 2,000, totally calculated to Rs 12 lakh from September 2021. Shah approached the anti-extortion squad. The police cross-checked his complaint and concluded that it was an extortion case. Shinde was arrested.
He has been handed over to the Samarth police. The action was taken under the guidance of Addl CP Ramnath Pokale, DCP Srinivas Ghadge, and Senior PI Balaji Pandhare. A team comprising PSI Shrikant Chavan, policemen Vijay Gurav, Pradip Shitole, Shailesh Surve, Vinod Salunke, Saidoba Bhojrao, Sangram Shingare, and Sachin Ahivale took this action.
