Pune : Deccan Express – Pune Crime | Additional Sessions Judge K. P. Nandedkar has rejected the bail plea of Pankaj Chhallani, the main accused in the case of defrauding crores of rupees by luring extra interest on the amount invested. It is revealed that the accused committed fraud of Rs 46 crore to the depositors.
Pankaj Bhagchand Chhallani (age 46, resident of Mukund Nagar) is the name of the accused whose bail application was rejected. Chhallani is currently in judicial custody. He was arrested on January 5. The complaint was filed by Richard Vasant Anchi (58, resident of Bhosalenagar). A case has been registered at Swargate police station. The incident took place between November 2014 and January 2021 at the office in the Times Square building on Satara Road.
The accused lured the plaintiffs to pay 18 to 24 percent interest on the amount invested. He also took Rs 65 lakh as deposit from November 2014 to September 2018. It is also mentioned in the complaint that the plaintiff has been cheated without paying the deposit amount and interest on it from March 2018.
Investigations have revealed that 56 investors have invested and the accused has defrauded Rs 43 crore 3 lakh 42 thousand 133. Also the number of frauds is likely to increase further. A chargesheet has been filed against Pankaj Chhallani in March 2021 at MPID Shivajinagar Court. A case of fraud has also been registered against him in Dattawadi Police.
Forensic Auditor Appointed
Investigating where the accused has invested the embezzled money, whether he has bought the property in his own name or in the name of his family? Correspondence has been sent to the Inspector General of Stamp Registration to gather information in this regard. Forensic auditors have been appointed to conduct forensic audits and digital forensic audits as the case is a financial scam as well as a comprehensive one. Government Advocate Maruti Wadekar argued that the accused’s bail application should be rejected. The crime is being investigated by the Economic Crimes Branch police officers.
