Pune: Serum Institute of India CEO Adar Poonawalla shared an ‘emotional moment’ on his twitter account during the dispatch of the first lot of COVISHIELD – the most awaited vaccines to protect against the deadly coronavirus – in the country on Tuesday (January 12) morning.
“An emotional moment for the team at @SerumInstIndia as the first shipments of #Covishield finally leave for multiple locations across India,” tweeted Adar on Tuesday evening 5pm. In the images attached to this tweet, Adar can be seen sitting on the rear side of container packed with COVISHIELD vials and also in a group photo with the employees of Serum Institute.
News agency ANI has quoted Adar saying, “We’ve given a special price of Rs 200 for the first 100 mn doses only to GoI on their request, that we want to support common man, vulnerable, poor, healthcare workers. After that we’ll be selling it at Rs 1000 in pvt markets.”
“This is a historical moment that vaccine is being dispatched from our factory. Our main challenge is to bring it to everyone in the country. It is our challenge for 2021, let’s see how it happens,” he told ANI.
