On Thursday night, a team of Mumbai police had detained Shrikant Purushottam Paranjape (63) and brother Shashank Purushottam Paranjape (59) from their resident in Pune regarding an alleged cheating case.
Manjunath Singe, deputy commissioner of Police said, “Based on a complaint of 70th-year-old lady, Shrikant and Shashank have been booked under 476, 467, 468, 406, 420 and 120 of Indian Penal Code. Another person R Patil is also named by the complainant. This action is being taken for allegedly creating and fake documents. We have detained Paranjape brothers for detailed inquiry and we can not call it an arrest.”
According to police, Mahadev Paranjape and Raghuvend Pathak have also been named by the complainant. Such a case was also registered in 2020 and police are investigating the case.
Police also told that an inquiry is being done in this case. The police are conducting preliminary inquiries in the case.
Later on Friday evening, both Shrikant and Shashank were released after inquiry. Alka Mandve, the senior police inspector said that “After inquiry, we have released Shashan and Shrikant today evening at five.”
After the incident Amit Paranjape, Director, Paranjape Schemes (Construction) Limited issued a statement.
He mentions, “The complaint was filed by one of our family members due to the misunderstanding about the share in our ancestral property. My father Shashank and uncle Shrikant were called at the Vile Parle Police Station to explain their side of the story along with few more members of Paranjape family, especially their cousins. It may be noted all the members of the Paranjape family are together except the complainant.
The Police officers at Vile Parle Police Station have already clarified that there were no arrests in this regard. This entire matter is nothing but the internal family dispute about the share in the ancestral property and it has nothing to do with our real estate development business and the firm Paranjape Schemes (Construction) Limited. Both my father and uncle have returned to Pune.”
