Pune : Deccan ExpressImportant documents were destroyed when a fire broke out in a commercial building near the Volkswagen showroom of BU Bhandari near the PMC head office. The firebrigade vehicles reached the spot immediately and doused the fire. Twenty five per cent of the documents were saved. There was no loss of life in the incident.

Firebrigade official Pradip Khedekar said “The firebrigade had received a call at 5 am about a fire which had broken out in a commercial building outside the Volkswagen showroom of BU Bhandari near the PMC head office. After we went there, we saw that fire had broken out on the ground floor of the building which has a record room.

The record room is spread over 3,000 square feet. The building is owned by Jayesh Shah. He earlier owned an electric motor company. After the company was shut, the records were kept in the record room on the ground floor. We saw that there was a huge amount of smoke at the spot. Initially, a vehicle of the Kasba fire station reached the spot. Later, a vehicle of the Naidu fire station reached the spot.

Since the blaze was raging fiercely, a fire engine and two water tankers were requisitioned from the main fire brigade office. Since there was a lot of smoke, it was removed. Two jawans wearing protective suits were sent inside. Four water lines were created and water was sprayed and the fire was brought under control in 30 minutes. The fire was completely put out in one hour. However, the majority of the documents kept in the record room were destroyed.
