Hanumant Nazirkar case | Rahul Khomne’s bail application rejected

Deccan Express:  The special court recently rejected the bail application made by Hanumant Nazirkar nephew Rahul Shivaji Khomane arrested by Anti-corruption Bureau (ACB) in a disproportionate asset case.

Nazirkar is the main accused in the case. Nazirkar and Khomane were arrested in March in a case by ACB registered at Alankar police station in June 2020. A total of eight people booked in the case of disproportionate asset ₹82 crores according to the police complaint in the case.

Both have been lodge in Yerawad jail. ACB filed a charge sheet in the case on the 91st day. Usually, if the no charge sheet is filled in 90 days accused is entitle for the bail. and accordingly accused sought the bail from the court.

However, to prevent the bail, Girish Sonawane, a police inspector from ACB

and public prosecutor Rajesh Kavedia referred an old case from High Court ‘Yash Pal Gupta Vs Punjab Government and others’ where charge sheet was filed on 91st day were to prevent bail in this case.

Public Prosecutor Rajesh Kavedia said, “Rahul Khomane (31) was arrested on March 24 and the court awarded police custody till April 7 and since April 7 the accused is in judicial custody. On June 24 the charge sheet was filed in court. And the accused applied for the default bail before the 90th day from the arrest.”

These assets are apart from the 37 partnership firms and private limited companies in which the family members have invested.

Apart from the case, Hanumant Nazirkar has three other cases registered against him – two in Baramati police station of Pune rural police and one at APMC police station of Navi Mumbai police.

The police are investigating the allegations against them since January 1986 and March 2020 when the man served in public office.

The case is under Sections 13(m)(b)(e), RW 13(2) of Prevention of Corruption Act, and Sections 109, 420, 465, 467, 468, 471, 472, 474, 475, and 120(b) of Indian Penal Code is registered at Alankar police on June 23, 2020.
