Pune : Deccan Express – Covid-19 vaccine | For the first time, two lakh vaccine doses were provided to the district on Wednesday. Of these, 1,79,500 are Covishield while 33,000 doses are Covaxin. Earlier, 1.50 lakh, the highest number of doses on a day, were provided to the district in April.
Around 50,000-60,000 people are being vaccinated in the district daily. Covishield will be available at 186 vaccination centres in Pune on Thursday. Every centre will get 200 doses. Of the 33,000 Covaxin doses, Pune rural will get 15,000, Pune city will get 11,000 while Pimpri Chinchwad will get 7,000 doses. Covaxin will be made available at six centres in the city.
Till date, 58,42,245 citizens have been vaccinated in Pune district. Of these, 43,91,679 people have taken the first dose while 14,50,566 have taken the second dose. In all, 51 percent of citizens have taken the first dose while 17 percent of citizens have taken the second dose.
Supply expedited after Tope’s visit
State Health Minister Rajesh Tope had visited Pune district on July 23. Officials expressed their disappointment that the district was not getting adequate vaccines. It was brought to his notice that private hospitals were getting vaccines while government centres were not getting adequate doses. Tope indicated that he would look into the issue.
Around 2.25 lakh vaccine doses were provided on Wednesday. This is the first time that the district has got the highest number of doses. The district had got 1.50 lakh doses in April.
