Pune : deccan express The ruling BJP in the PMC has ignored welfare of Puneites and has focused on advertising itself. Therefore, the civic body’s coffer, which is otherwise empty, had abundant money for a useless coffee-table book. The BJP has robbed the PMC for the coffee-table book, alleged NCP Pune unit chief Prashant Jagtap.

An agitation was staged at the PMC under Jagtap’s leadership to condemn the expenditure. He was speaking during the stir. He said, “We have seen hardships suffered by Puneites during the pandemic. The ruling BJP was cribbing that the PMC has no money when a Jumbo Covid Hospital and other health facilities were required. During the dreaded waves, 9,114 citizens lost their lives. However, the BJP laid its hand on common Puneites money to advertise its achievements during the pandemic. The party planned financial gains for some of its well-wishers through this. The rulers have robbed the PMC for their selfish ends, alleged Jagtap.

The NCP leader said during the NCP rule in the PMC, a coffee-table book was published, which contained articles on Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, Rajmata Jijau and Mahatma Jotiba Phule. It also had the glorious history of Pune and advancements it has made. However, the coffee-table book being brought out by the BJP will portray hardships of Puneites during the pandemic.

It is an effort to narrate a black chapter in the history of the city through the coffee-table book. It is condemnable. The NCP opposes this. The NCP has handed over a petition to PMC Health Chief Dr Ashish Bharati. A complaint will be lodged with the Urban Development Department,
Home Department, the ACB and the CID to probe the tender passed in this regard, said Jagtap.

NCP workers raised slogans condemning the ruling BJP. Opposition leader in PMC Deepali Dhumal, Ravindra Malwadkar, Pradeep Deshmukh, corporators Mahendra Pathare, Rekha Tingre, Smita Kondhare and NCP cells’ city unit chiefs, office-bearers and workers were present in a large number.
