Pune : deccan express  The Bombay High Court has taken a serious note of the incident where a bison entered Pune city and ran helter skelter resulting in its death on December 9, 2020, and issued a notice to the forest department and the police commissioner of Pune.

The notice has been sent by a bench of Justice Dipankar Datta and MS Karnik and has asked the state government to file a reply by January 17, 2022.

Last year, a bison had entered the Kothrud area of Pune city and a large number of onlookers had gathered to see the animal. The bison was hurt after it was attacked by stray dogs. The bison was agitated after seeing a huge crowd and banged his body against a steel gate and was injured in the process.

The post-mortem report revealed that the bison had died due to a heart attack. Lawyers for Earth Justice, a team of lawyers, had filed a public interest litigation in December 2020 after they came to know that forest officers were responsible for bison’s death.

The hearing on the matter took place after a year.

The bison ran for about three-four kilometres through Mahatma Society in Kothrud but did not attack any person. A person may get severely injured or may even lose his life if he is attacked by a bison. The bison tried to find a way through the onlookers but it failed to do so.

Local residents clicked photographs and took videos and the bison which was disturbed after seeing a large crowd, kept on running in different directions. People also ran after the animal and shared the photos and videos on the social media.
