Pune: Joint Commissioner of Police (Pune City) Dr Ravindra Shisve has ordered an investigation into the case of violation of COVID19 norms during the grand wedding ceremony of Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA Ram Satpute and the party’s intellectual cell state committee member Sanskruti Gathekar a few days ago.

The wedding ceremony was conducted at a venue which comes under the jurisdiction of Alankar Police Station near Karve Nagar. Hence Jt CP Ravindra Shisve has ordered the senior police inspector incharge of Alankar station to submit a report in this regard.

Satpute hails from Bhamburdi village of Malshiras tehsil, a highly drought-prone region of Solapur district. His father worked with the Shankar Cooperative Sugar Factory between 1990 and 1995 as a sugar cane harvester.

Ram Satpute did his schooling in Malshiras and then moved to Pune for higher education. He is an engineering student of the Pune Vidyarthi Griha (PVG). He entered student politics as an activist of the Akhil Bhartiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP). He was made the vice-president of the BJP Yuva Morcha soon after he joined the ABVP.

COVID19 protocols like social distancing, wearing masks and limited number of guests were brazenly flouted during the wedding ceremony of Satpute who is a close aide of former Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. Pune City Mayor Murlidhar Mohol along with Fadnavis, Pune MP Girish Bapat, Leader of Opposition in the Legislative Council Praveen Darekar, Nitesh Rane, Gopichand Padalkar, and Harshvardhan Patil were present for the wedding.

The district administration has restricted the number of guests allowed for a marriage ceremony. The district administration and police officials take action against the marriage hall owners, event managers and concerned parties if the COVID19 norms are flouted during the ceremony.
