Pune : Deccan Express – CM Uddhav Thackeray | Prime Minister Narendra Modi had inaugurated the Pune Riverfront Development Project. NCP President Sharad Pawar has issued instructions that work on the project should be stopped. Environmentalists have also objected to the project. Now, Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray is going to review the project in the presence of PMC officials. MP Advocate Vandana Chavan gave this information.
Eyebrows are being raised in political circles that the CM has been forced to focus on a project in the home district of Deputy CM Ajit Pawar. The state government is going to examine the project after a letter was sent to Sharad Pawar by environmentalists from Pune. Hence, CM Thackeray is going to review the project.
Due to these developments, the river restoration project can become a focal point in the forthcoming municipal corporation elections. Vandana Chavan held a press conference on Thursday and she gave information that the CM is going to review the project. Chavan said,” We are not opposed to the project but the civic body has not answered our queries. The project should be implemented by addressing the problems.”
The riverbanks of both Mula and Mutha rivers are going to be developed in the ambitious Rs 5,000 crore project. The foundation stone of the project had been laid by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Two tenders of the project have been approved.
After the project’s foundation stone was laid by PM Modi, Sharad Pawar has ordered that work on the project should be stopped. The water resources department of the state government had asked the PMC to present a report on the viability and effectiveness of the project based on the questions raised by some NGOs.
The explanation given by the PMC is not satisfactory, say environmentalists. Hence, the CM is now going to review the project, said Vandana Chavan.
Pradeep Ghumare said in the press conference that because of the Metro and E-buses, the public transport system in the city will be strengthened. Hence, the number of private vehicles on the roads will reduce, says the civic body but for whom the tunnel is being built which is proposed to be constructed by blasting the Vetal Tekdi for the Panchavati to Pashan road? It is wrong to say that traffic congestion will be reduced by constructing the tunnel, Ghumare said.
The tunnel which is going to be constructed by blasting the Vetal Tekdi for Panchavati to Pashan road will have a negative impact on the environment. Since the Vetal Tekdi area is a large reservoir of Pune city, it will be incorrect to tamper with it.
A question was also raised as to why all big projects are being implemented in Kothrud and Karve Nagar.
