Satara: 23 senior citizens test positive for COVID-19 in old age home

Deccanexpress online: Satara: As many as 23 senior citizens from Matoshri old age home in Mahagaon in Satara tested positive for coronavirus on Wednesday. The senior citizens are between the age of 57 to 75 and have co-morbidities.

Dr Shrikant Karkhanis said, “seven out of the 23 patients were moved to Satara COVID care centre after examining their symptoms and looking at their age”. “The rest of the patients will be kept in home isolation and under observation”, he added.

According to the information received, initially four persons had tested positive for the virus, Thus, upon testing more, another 19 persons tested positive.

Maharashtra on Tuesday (March 9) reported 9,927 new COVID-19 cases and 56 deaths in the last 24 hours, according to the state’s health department bulletin. With this, the cumulative count of the cases reached 22,38,398 in the state.

A total of 12,182 patients were discharged on Tuesday, taking the total number of recoveries to 20,89,294. As per the health department, the state’s current recovery rate is 93.34 percent.

Maharashtra has so far tested 1,70,22,315 samples for Covid-19, of which 22,38,398 have tested positive for the viral disease. This puts the positivity rate, as per the latest figures at 13.15 percent.

The Maharashtra government has reimposed restrictive measures in several major cities, including Mumbai and Pune, to counter the increase in new confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus. These measures include night curfews and weekend lockdowns in parts of the state.
