Mumbai : Deccan Express – Rashmi Shukla | Lawyer of Rashmi Shukla, is the former police commissioner of state intelligence, has made a big confession in court. On behalf of Rashmi Shukla, he told the court that the phone tapping was done with permission of Maharashtra government.
“The Maharashtra Government had allowed Rashmi Shukla to tap the phone numbers of some people. The permission was given to find out the truth in the allegations of corruption in the alleged transfers of the Maharashtra Police,” said the advocate on behalf of Rashmi Shukla.
In the High Court, the petition of Rashmi Shukla was heard before a bench of Justice S. S. Shinde and Justice N. J. Jamdar. She has challenged the case filed against her by the Mumbai Police. During the hearing, Shukla’s lawyer Mahesh Jethmalani informed the High Court that the Maharashtra DGP had ordered tapping of some phone numbers. These numbers belonged to some intermediaries who had contacts with political figures. The men involved in corruption were demanding large sums of money from police officers to transfer them to the desired location.
Shukla’s lawyer Mahesh Jethmalani told the court that the action was taken by Rashmi Shukla on the orders of the DGP. She was just obeying orders. Shukla had sought the permission of Sitaram Kunte, Additional Chief Secretary to the State Government, as per Indian Telegraph Rules.
Kunte had given permission for phone tapping between July 17 and July 29, 2020. However, he later said that he was misinformed while seeking permission. Now Shukla is being made the scapegoat. Jethmalani said it was legal to tap wireless messages for strong reasons to prevent crime. Meanwhile, Rashmi Shukla is currently working in Hyderabad on a central deputation.
