Calcutta HC cancels bail of 4 Bengal leaders in Narada case; all to remain in CBI custody till May 19

In the Narada sting case, the Calcutta High Court has stayed the bail orders of all the four TMC leaders. All the arrested accused will have to remain in the judicial custody of the CBI. The bail plea was granted by a special court, but the CBI challenged it in the Calcutta High Court.

The CBI had on Monday arrested Minister Firhad Hakim, Minister Subrata Banerjee and MLA Madan Mitra. A special CBI court had granted bail to all the four TMC leaders after seven hours of detention. A special CBI court headed by Justice Anupam Mukherjee had granted bail to all the four arrested accused. The CBI then challenged it in the Calcutta High Court.

After getting bail from the CBI court, Firhad Hakim’s daughter Shabba Hakim alleged through social media that even after getting bail, Firhad Hakim was not released by the CBI. She tweeted that even after the bail order was issued, Minister Firhad Hakim, Minister Subrata Banerjee, MLA Madan Mitra and Sovan Chatterjee were arrested. The CBI is contempt of court.

Bengal politics is heating up again after the CBI’s action in the Narada sting case on Monday. Trinamool Congress workers staged a protest outside the CBI office against the minister’s arrest. Meanwhile, the situation became uncontrollable and stone pelting started, after which the security forces charged the baton.
