Zika virus under control in Pune district

Pune : Deccan ExpressThe Central Health Department has informed that the Zika virus infection in Purandar taluka is under control, said the head of the department Dr. Himmatsingh Pawar.

The first Zika patient in the state was found in Belsar. Since then, all the health systems were working on war-footing. The health department and the gram panchayat have handled the situation in a sensitive manner. The team also expressed satisfaction over this.

The team includes Dr. Pawar, Dr. Nain Shilpi, Dr. Mangesh Gokhale of the National Institute of Virology. Dr. Ajay Bendre, Entomologist, State Health Department, Dr. Mahendra Jagtap, Dr. Pranil Kamble, State Health Department. MLAs Sanjay Jagtap, Nandkumar Jagtap, Amar Mane, Ujjwala Jadhav, Dr. Bharat Shitole, Dr. Sagar Dange, Arjun Dhende, Dheeraj Jagtap, RN Shelke, Nilesh Jagtap, Kailas Jagtap etc. were also included. The Central Health Department reviewed the preventive measures taken by the Gram Panchayat and the Health Department at Belsar Health Center.

“The administration is monitoring the situation. All systems are working properly. So citizens should not panic,” said Sanjay Jagtap, MLA.

Preliminary measures suggested by the team –

– Zika mosquito bites during the day, so full clothes should be worn
– Apply mosquito repellent ointment like Odomos on the body
– Pregnant and young children should be protected from mosquitoes
– Do not store water
– Pregnant women should be taken more care of

Pregnant women are at greater risk from Zika infection. If a pregnant woman is infected, she is likely to endanger the baby. As a result, the baby is more likely to suffer from dementia. Therefore, pregnant women need to take special care in this regard, said Nain Shilpi.
