Pune : deccan express The authorities of Dastur School on Tuesday denied entry to about 20-25 students of standard XI because they were wearing canvas shoes which were not approved by the school management. The students were told to wait outside the school premises and sent home after some time. The school’s move has angered the parents of these students.

The schools were closed for many months due to the corona epidemic and the academic year is drawing to a close. The parents have purchased a new uniform by spending Rs 6,500. However, the shoes were not available in the shop recommended by the school authorities. Hence, many parents could not buy the shoes.

Some students studying in standard XI had gone to the school by wearing some other canvas shoes. They were stopped at the gate and since they were not wearing shoes recommended by school authorities, they were sent home.

Angry parents said that they had purchased new uniforms by spending Rs 6,500 and they could have purchased new shoes by paying Rs 500. However, the shoes were not available in the shop recommended by the school.

The parents said it was uncertain that schools will remain open for how long and alleged that the school is eying the commission it gets from the sale of shoes and it should give importance to studies.

Efforts to contact school authorities did not prove successful.
