Ratnagiri district faces third wave threat as 386 children contract Covid-19

Deccan Express: Ratnagiri: The second wave of the pandemic is subsiding in Maharashtra. However, the State has the highest number of patients in the country affected by the Delta Plus variant of the virus. Hence, experts have predicted the third wave in the State.

Ratnagiri district has the highest number of Delta Plus variant patients in the State. It is said that children will be affected the most in the third wave. In this backdrop, 386 cases of children affected by the variant were reported in the district. These children are below 14 years. The positivity rate is 6.96 percent in the district in the current month. In all, 226 children have been affected in Khed taluka in this month. Of these 40 cases are active. It is a matter of concern.

A massive testing drive is currently underway in the district. Adults, along with children, are being tested. Hence, positive cases of children are getting detected.

There are 27 affected children below 14 years in Khed taluka alone. Six of these have been home-quarantined while 21 children are being treated in various hospitals. The affected children are in the age group of 6-14 years, which is shocking.

Here are the names of primary health centres and the number of affected children in them: Ambavali 2, Murud 3, Khed Municipal Council 3, Koregaon 8, Lote 1, Shivbudruk 4, Tisangi 2, and Vave 4.

In all, there are 21 affected children at these PHCs while six children have been home-isolated, who are asymptomatic. Till June 2, the total number of positive cases in the district was 62,880.
