Pune: Deccan ExpressPune PMC News | After a long period, the hurdles in the way of widening the road near Rajput Vasahat have been cleared. Rehabilitation of 33 families will be carried out and the road will be widened to 150 metres thus creating an alternative road for the Karve Road.

The Riverside Road which connects Tilak Bridge and Mhatre Bridge has proved a boon for 20 years for citizens who want to travel from Shivajinagar and central areas of the city to Karve Nagar, Erandwane and Sinhagad Road via the Rajaram Bridge. However, the road going from Rajput Vasahat to Mehendale Garage Chowk near the Mhatre Bridge is very narrow. The width of the road is only five metres. Even if a three-wheeler or a four-wheeler passes on the road, it leads to a traffic jam. Hence, for many years, iron barricades were put on the road to allow only two-wheelers to travel by the road.

Apart from the civic administration, local corporators were also following up the issue. The civic administration has finally found a way to solve the problem by having continuous discussions with the land owners and the tenants.

The land on which 33 houses are located in the 150 metres area from the river bed to the Mehendale Garage Chowk, is being acquired.

The residents of this area are going to be rehabilitated and they are being handed over possession of flats. The residents will be shifted soon and the road will also be widened soon. After the widening, the width of the road will be 10 metres and there will be a movement of traffic on the two lanes, according to the information given by civic officials.

Small vehicles heading to Karve Nagar, Kothrud, Sinhagad Road from the city area and those going to the city area from these areas will get an alternative road.
