Fire brigade jawans rescue five occupants of car being swept away by strong water currents in Pune

Pune: Deccan ExpressPune News | The Mutha river has been in spate after a huge amount of water was released from the Khadakwasla dam. Five occupants of a car were in deep trouble after they took the vehicle on the flooded riverside road. The five people in the car who were being swept away by the strong currents of water, were rescued by officials of the fire brigade and their lives were saved. The incident took place on the riverside road below SM Joshi Bridge at 1.45 am. (Pune News)

 

The rescued people have been identified as Vanchika Lalvani (13), Priya Lalvani (22), Kunal Valvani (28), Kapil Lalvani (21), Krishna Lalvani (8), all residents of Palghar.

 

They hail from Palghar and are visiting their relatives in Pune. They entered the riverside road from the Rajput Vasahat. They took their vehicle on the riverside road despite the road being flooded. Since it was dark, they could not judge the amount of water on the road. Since the water currents were very strong, their vehicle was swept away and was stuck under the bridge.

 

The fire brigade was informed that a car was being swept away in the water below the SM Joshi Bridge. Officials of the Erandvane fire brigade immediately reached the spot. The jawans used ropes and life jackets and entered the river and reached the car. They safely evacuated the five occupants of the car.

 

The driver of the fire brigade, Dnyaneshwar Khedekar, fireman Kishor Bane, Dilip Ghadshi and Sandip Karle were involved in the rescue efforts.

 

A man jumped into the water from the bridge near Hotel Westin in Koregaon Park and three teams of the fire brigade and a team of PMRDA are trying to locate him.
