Centre, JICA approve tenders of Mula Mutha Riverfront Development Project

Pune : deccan expressPune Municipal Corporation (PMC) |  The Central government and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) have given the green signal for approval of tenders of the Mula Mutha Riverfront Development Project being implemented with the latter’s cooperation.

 

A proposal will be placed in the Standing Committee of the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) regarding the river rejuvenation project and the work will begin soon, said Mayor Murlidhar Mohol.

 

The Central government has entered into an agreement with the National River Conservation Directorate, JICA and the PMC. The Centre has approved funds of Rs 990.26 cr for the project. The Centre has a share of 85 per cent i.e. Rs 841.72 crore and PMC 15 per cent i.e Rs 184.54 crore.

 

There will be three packages of laying the main sewage pipelines and 11 sewage treatment plants in six packages. As a part of package 1, the work of laying sewage pipelines has been completed. However, the tenders of setting up sewage treatment plants as part of package four have been cancelled due to high charges.

 

The PMC had submitted a proposal to JICA regarding reworking of the project in August 2020. JICA had given a green signal for the proposal in September 2020. An advertisement had also been published regarding the tender.

 

The work of constructing 11 sewage treatment plants and laying new sewage pipelines had been included in the advertisement. The period of maintenance and repair of sewage treatment plants was fixed at 15 years.
