What’s the case?

The plaintiff had taken Rs 15 lakh from Anil Hagwane for business in March 2018 at a 10% interest rate per month. At that time, Hagwane had taken a blank signed stamp of Rs 500 and 5 blank cheques. Till date, the plaintiff had paid an interest amount of Rs 10.50 lakh. He also borrowed Rs 9 lakh from accused Kiran Bhilare and paid Rs 60 thousand as interest.

Accused Hagwane and Bhilare demanded Rs 50 lakh from the plaintiff as principal and interest. If not paid, they insisted he transfer his 5 acres of farmland in their name. They also threatened to kill his wife and children if he did not write off the land. On Friday (December 17), the accused forcibly took the plaintiff out of the house, saying that they wanted to bring Kiran Bhilare’s vehicle. They brought him near the Shankar Maharaj Math in Dhankawadi, where police constable Manoj Bhargude verbally abused him and beat him, after which he was kept in a shed.

Shirur police arrested the six accused today and produced them in court. The court has remanded the accused to police custody till December 21. PSI Hanumant Padalkar of Shirur Police Station is conducting further investigation.
