Pune : Deccan Express – Pune Court | The bail plea of the city businessman has been rejected by the court in the case of evasion GST of 118 crores by cheating with the central government. Chief Justice Magistrate S.S. Ghorpade has given this order.

The bail plea of businessman Santosh Doshi has been rejected by the court. Doshi was arrested on August 17 for evading GST worth Rs 118 crore. He had filed a petition in the court seeking bail. The accused has cheated the Central Government by evading GST tax as per the GST Act 2017. Because of this, Special Public Prosecutor Sandeep Ghate, on behalf of the DGGI Revenue Intelligence Department, opposed the bail.

But the counsel for the accused argued that the accused had not committed the crime. The accused has nothing to do with this offence. Opposing this, advocate Ghate cited the prevailing decision of the Supreme Court. The GST commissioner has every right to arrest the accused in such a case.

Also, there is no need to make an assessment before arresting. This crime is going to worsen the economic condition of the country.

Bail should not be granted in such a serious case. This is the second major case unearthed by the GST intelligence officers. Earlier, a case of GST tax evasion of 126 crore had come to the fore.
