Pune : deccan expressPMC JICA project |  The follow-up made by MP Girish Bapat of the Mula-Mutha River Rejuvenation Project has proved successful and all hurdles in the project have been cleared. JICA has given permission for the work to start on the project after the tender process is completed. JICA has sent a letter to the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC).

Bapat is trying to ensure that the PMC JICA project is completed. The deadline for the project was January 31, 2022. However, the PMC could not complete the tender process on time. There was a possibility that the funds sanctioned by the Centre could have gone back to the Centre. Bapat met Jalshakti Minister Gajendrasinh Shekhawat. The latter had told civic officials to issue the work order for the project and had clarified that funds will not go back to the Centre.

JICA is going to allocate Rs 850 crore to the PMC for the project. The frequent meetings between Bapat and Shekhawat ensured that the funds were not sent back and the project is completed.

Since the Centre wanted to extend the deadline of the project, the PMC had sent a proposal to JICA for its permission. JICA also took a positive view and sent a letter to the PMC asking it to complete the tender work and start the project.

The letter sent by JICA said there is no objection to complete the tender process according to the agreement. It should be completed as early as possible and the documents should be sent to it for a review. This will help to start the project in this financial year, the letter sent by JICA said.

Because of this development, the project which is important for Pune, can now be completed without any major problem.
