After these, the total number of cases increased to 2,33,40,938. Meanwhile, another dangerous news is coming from Maharashtra. State Health Minister Rajesh Tope said on Tuesday that there could be more than 2000 patients with mucormycosis in the state so far and the number of Covid-19 patients would also increase in the number of cases.

Tope said that mucormycosis has a mortality rate of 50 percent and that it infects those Covid-19 patients who have low immunity or are already suffering from other diseases. Mucormycosis is also known as black fungus. The Maharashtra government has decided to use the hospitals associated with the medical college to treat cases of mucormycosis.

Earlier, Tope had said on Monday that patients with mucormycosis would be treated free of cost under the state government’s flagship medical insurance scheme. In an official statement, Tope was quoted as saying that mucormycosis patients would be covered under the Mahatma Jyotiba Phule Jan Arogya Yojana as the medicines required to combat this fungal infection are very expensive. Such patients will be treated free of cost in 1000 hospitals covered under the health plan. The minister said that the symptoms of this disease are seen in those Covid-19 patients who are suffering from diabetes.
