Kolhapur :Deccan Express | Kolhapur Rain | Rain has wreaked havoc in Kolhapur. The district is experiencing heavy rain. A red alert was issued in the district on Wednesday. It is still raining heavily. The water level of Panchganga river has reached up to 36 feet. Around 77 bunds in the district are under water.

Danger of floods in the district

The district is facing the danger of floods. The water level of Panchganga river has reached up to 36 feet. Many villages have been marooned. Two battalions of NDRF have been rushed from Pune to Kolhapur.

Heavy rain lashed the district. Kolhapur-Ganganbawada road is flooded and the road has been closed for traffic. Kumbhi river at Mandukali is overflowing and roads are submerged under two feet of water. Panchganga river is four feet short of reaching the danger level. If it continues to rain with the same intensity, Panchganga will soon cross the danger mark of 39 ft. It is flowing at 36 ft.

Chandgad and Gaganbawada talukas received showers throughout the night yesterday. Barki village remained cut off as the bridge connecting the village is underwater.

Water is being discharged from the Gelvade dam in Shahuwadi taluka. Kasari river is also flooding. A discharge of 780 cusecs is being made from Kumbhe dam. The Kolhapur-Gaganbawada road is flooded at Kirve and is closed for traffic.

These roads are closed for traffic in the district

Gadhinglaj district is receiving heavy rain. Nilji and Ainapur bunds are overflowing and have been closed for traffic. Chandgad highway is likely to be submerged by afternoon. Kolhapur-Ratnagiri highway has been closed for traffic. The national highway is flooded on the stretch from Malkapur to Ratnagiri and is under two feet of water at Yellur village.
