IGSTC fellowship launched for Science and Technology students

Department of Science and Technology, Govt. of India recently launched Indo-German Science & Technology Centre (IGSTC) Industrial Fellowship programme.
Prof. Ashutosh Sharma, Secretary, Department of Science and Technology launched the fellowship programme.
He said, “This fellowship will encourage applied research, technology development and industrial experience in German setup for young researchers.”
The IGSTC Industrial fellowship aims to support young Indian PhD students and Post-Doctoral researchers in Science
and Engineering for industrial exposure at German industries and industrial R&D institutions.

The fellowship will offer an attractive grant for a maximum of one year.
The programme was launched at a virtual meeting. IGSTC Governing Body Co-Chairs and members,
representatives from Indian & German Governments, Industries and Academia were also present for the programme.
SK Varshney, Head, International Division, DST and Indian co-chair of IGSTC, addressed on the occasion. While congratulating all stakeholders, he mentioned that the Centre has created a niche for itself by propagating Indo-German cooperation in applied research and technology development by industries.
Varshney requested all scientific agencies and the industry to utilize the services of the centre in furthering bilateral scientific cooperation of industrial relevance.

Kathrin Meyers, Director, BMBF and German co-chair of IGSTC also addressed the gathering, she said,
“This programme will bring talented Indian researchers to Germany to work with German companies or government institutes for applied science.
As fellows, they can create a long-lasting relationship between both countries for the future.”

Adding more about the fellowship, she said, “Supported by academia/research organisations and led by industry, This centre also provides a unique platform to utilize newer cooperation.”

IGSTC was established by the Department of Science & Technology (DST), Govt. of India & Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF), Govt. of Germany.
The main aim of the IGSTC is to facilitate Indo-German research and development networking with emphasis on industry participation in applied research and technology development.
