The commission works for the status of women. This information has been given by TS Tirumurti, India’s permanent representative to the United Nations.
This year, the 25th anniversary of the famous Beijing World Conference is being celebrated and during this time China has also suffered a major setback. India will continue to be a member of this commission for the next four years.
There was a contest between India, China and Afghanistan to get this seat in the commission. India and Afghanistan were supported by most of the 54 members, while China suffered disappointment. India finally won this seat.
