Pune : Deccan ExpressAmazon scam | The Maharashtra unit of the All India Congress Committee (AICC) has demanded a reply from Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the reports about alleged bribes or fees paid by US e-commerce giant Amazon, a whopping of Rs 8,546 crore in the name of legal fees in India in last two years.

The demand was made by H K Patil, General Secretary and in-charge of AICC Maharashtra, in a press conference held in Pune. He demanded that a fair probe should be conducted over the allegations under the supervision of the chief justice of the Supreme Court of India.

Patil also alleged that that Amazon spent Rs 8,546 crores on legal fees illegally in the name of foreign direct investment (FDI) and the BJP government is supporting it. This is going to impact around 8 lakh, small traders and shopkeepers.

During the press conference, Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee President (MPCC) MLA Nana Patole, AICC Secretary Sonal Patel, MPCC Working President Basavaraj Patil and Arif Nasim Khan, Minister of State for Agriculture Dr. Vishwajeet Kadam, Pune City District Congress Committee President Ramesh Bagwe, and State Vice President Mohan Joshi were present.

Patil said that the country received Independence because of the sacrifices of millions of people and farmers, workers and soldiers. They have a huge contribution to making India prosperous. “Since BJP came to power at the centre, the government has been selling all public properties to a handful of industrialists in the name of disinvestment,” said Patil, adding that it is creating a rift among the people in the name of religion.

Patil explained that the faulty economic policy is hitting hard on common people. “The central government is not ready to take back the black law enacted against farmers. Farmer has been protesting against the laws for almost a year and the government is just ignoring it,” said Patil, adding that the central government’s wrong policy caused many deaths due to COVID as many patients could not get treatment in time.

Allegations made by H K Patil at the press conference

National Monetisation Pipeline

The total worth of public properties that the central government has planned to sell under the National Monetisation Pipeline (NMP) is around Rs 6 lakh crore. The property has been created by the hard work of the people of the country over the last 70 years. The BJP government at the Center is selling the property to a handful of its business allies under the guise of NMP.

Lakhimpur Kheri incident

In Lakhimpur Kheri in Uttar Pradesh, while the farmers were protesting against the black law, the son of a BJP Minister deliberately run over his vehicle on farmers. Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi was detained and later arrested while she was on her way to Lakhimpur to meet and pay her respects to the families of the deceased farmers. The BJP government in Uttar Pradesh is using police force to suppress people’s rights. We will not allow the country to become a police state.

Petrol, diesel and domestic gas price hike

For the last two years, the central government has been continuously raising the prices of petrol, diesel and domestic cooking gas. As a result, prices of essential commodities have skyrocketed. This has made it difficult for the general public to survive. The economic situation in the country is deteriorating day by day. The country has never seen such a bad situation in the last 74 years.

Since the Modi government came to power, the GDP has been steadily declining. More than 14 crore youth have become unemployed. The central government must provide data on how many jobs it has provided in the last 7 years.

The Modi government should answer the following questions.

1. Which politicians, officials, and political parties received Rs 8,546 crore from Amazon?

2. Was this money given to change the rules of foreign direct investment? This will impact the business of small shopkeepers and traders and MSMEs.

3. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is silent on the above corruption. He should reply to the corruption charges to the people of the country.
