Pune : deccan express – Omicron symptoms in kids | The Covid-19 variant, Omicron, is spreading fast around the world. Scientists are trying to gather more details about the variant. Data collected from South Africa and the United Kingdom suggests that the variant is spreading faster among children.
According to the British scientists, Omicron may prove to be a big challenge in the near future. Among its major symptoms are high fever, constant cough, weakness, headache, sore throat and loss of appetite.
Expert views from affected countries
All other variants till date did not affect much or have shown mild symptoms among children. According to experts, it is still early to predict how serious this variant would be. However, one has to keep a close watch on its symptoms. Because it can be treated early.
Doctors in South Africa said varying symptoms of Omicron have been observed among affected individuals. In an interview given to The Sun, Dr Rudo Mathivha of Chris Hani Baragwanath Academic Hospital said, “The affected children arriving here have medium to serious symptoms. They need to stay in the hospital for a longer duration for oxygen and supportive therapy.”
A majority of the patients in South Africa are youths and children. Particularly, children aged around five years need hospitalisation. It is said that the children in this age group are falling victim to the virus as they have not been inoculated.
