Mehul Choksi, an accused in the PNB scam, has been arrested in Dominica. However, many arguments are being fought over how Choksi reached Dominica. Though it is claimed that Choksi had gone to Dominica to meet his girlfriend, now the matter has taken a different turn. He was accompanied by a woman when Choksi reached Dominica. But it has been revealed that she was not his girlfriend but a member of his kidnapping gang. The gang kidnapped Choksi and beat him up. Choksi has since been arrested by police in Dominica.
Choksi had disappeared from Antigua and Barbuda a few days earlier. He was later revealed to be in Dominica. According to a report, the woman involved in the abduction was living in Antigua. This woman initially met Choksi. The two later became friends. On May 23, the woman called Choksi to meet her in the apartment where she was staying. The other accomplices who abducted her were there when Mehul went to her house. All of them kidnapped Mehul and brought him to Dominica. Antigua and Barbuda Prime Minister Gaston Browne said Choksi had gone to Dominica with his girlfriend. He was arrested there. Gaston has appealed to the Dominican government to send Choksi directly to India. A photo of Mehul Choksi in police custody went viral on Saturday night.
Choksi’s lawyer Vijay Agarwal claimed that the abductor had connections with India and had carried out the abduction with the help of Antigua authorities. The kidnappers beat Mehul. He was then brought to Dominica by boat. Attempts to extradite Choksi illegally will also be appealed in a Dominican court, Agarwal said, adding that Choksi, a citizen of Antigua, did not go to Dominica voluntarily. We are investigating how they got there. An Antigua court has ruled that Choksi cannot be extradited.
