Pune : deccan express – Habitual criminal Rupesh Krishnarao Marne (38), a resident of Kothrud, who has been terrorising people in Kothrud has been placed under Preventive Detention for one year under the Maharashtra Prevention of Dangerous Activities of Slumlords, Bootleggers (MPDA) Act, 1981.
Commissioner of Police Amitabh Gupta evoked the provisions of the Act against 50 goons in the past one year. Provisions of stringent Acts such as MPDA and MCOCA have been evoked to curb goon elements in the city.
Notorious goon Gajanan Marne who was released from the Taloja jail in the past was welcomed in a rally on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway. The Kothrud police had arrested Rupesh Marne and others in this matter. Rupesh Marne had cut his birthday cake in the middle of a road at midnight and had threatened a citizen. An offence has been registered against him at the Samarth Police Station.
Offences such as carrying lethal weapons, attempt to murder, extortion, causing injury, causing ruckus, obstructing a government servant in their work, violations of restriction during the pandemic, etc have been registered against him at the Kothrud, Warje Malwadi, Swargate, Yerwada, Paud, Talegaon Dabhade, and Samarth police stations. In all, nine serious crimes were registered against him in the past 18 years.
Citizens were afraid of lodging complaints against him due to his terror activities. CP Gupta scrutinised the documents related to a proposal in this regard. He approved the action against Rupesh Marne under the MPDA. Marne will be detained at the Harsul Jail, Aurangabad for one year.
