A woman residing at Warje Malwadi has lodged a complaint at the Warje Malwadi police station. The police have filed a case against Akash Shantaram Naik (28), a resident of Shivne.
According to the police, the complainant was staying in Warje after marriage. Later, she shifted to Shivne. In 2020, due to the lockdown, she used to stay at home.
Akash Naik was her neighbour. Since he used to come to their house with her husband, she got acquainted with him. On July 7, 2021 Akash came to their house drunk. He told her that he had mortgaged his autorickshaw and asked for money to secure its release. The complainant told her that she refused to help him saying she did not have money. He came to her house again on July 21 and started demanding money to secure the release of the auto. The complainant kept her gold necklace and gold ring as mortgage with a jeweller in Uttam Nagar to help him. She received Rs 60,000 and she mortgaged the necklace with a jeweller in Karve Nagar and Rs 20,000 to Akash.
Akash came to her house again on January 13, 2022 and sought her help. He took her ring and mortgaged it and took Rs 5,000. Since she did not meet Akash again, she tried to find out his whereabouts. She came to know that Akash did not own any rickshaw and he had not mortgaged any rickshaw. When she called Akash, she found that his phone was switched off. When she sought her money from Akash, he threatened to kill her. Her husband has gone to stay with his mother and she has been forced to stay in a home for destitutes.
The Warje Malwadi police are investigating the case.
