Pune : Deccan Express – Pune Crime | Serum Institute of India (SII) has been cheated of Rs 1 crore by sending fake WhatsApp messages using the name of its CEO Adar Poonawalla. The incident took place on September 7 and 8. SII finance officer Sagar Kittur (44), a resident of Kondhwa lodged a complaint at the Bund Garden police station in this regard. (Pune Crime)
According to the police, Kittur is the finance manager at SII. Satish Deshpande is the company director. Adar Poonawalla is the CEO at SII. Deshpande got fake WhatsApp messages from Poonawalla’s number instructing to deposit money urgently in certain bank accounts. Over Rs 1.01 crore was deposited in various accounts from the company’s account. Later, it was realised that the company was cheated. A police complaint was lodged. PI Ashwini Satpute is investigating the case.
