Pune: Deccan Express – Pune Crime | The Bund Garden police arrested four members of a gang involved in the attack on Hindu Rashtra Sena’s Tushar Hambir. The assailant tried to fire at him and assaulted with a sword. However, the attempt was foiled after an alert policeman on duty resisted them. The attackers fled away. (Pune Crime)
The Bund Garden police later arrested four of the five accused within 24 hours. The action was taken in Panmala area. The police seized the pistol, a cartridge, a sword and a chopper used in the crime. Two teams of the Bund Garden police were on the trail of the assailants.
The arrested have been identified as Sagar Hanumant Ovhal (22), Balaji Hanumant Ovhal (23), Suraj Shaikh (19) and Sagar Atole (21), all residents of Hadapsar. Their aide Sahil Inamdar is absconding. Tushar Namdeorao Hambir (35) lodged a complaint at the Bund Garden police station. The accused have been booked for attempt to murder, conspiracy and under the Arms Act.
According to the police, Tushar Hambir is a hardened criminal and was booked under the MCOCA in 2016. He has been lodged at the Yerawada jail since then. However, he was admitted to the Sassoon General Hospital on August 25 following an illness. On Monday night, the five accused entered the building on the pretext of meeting Hambir. One of them tried to fire at Hambir. However, the pistol did not work. Other patients around realised this. Police constable Bagad and Hambir’s brother-in-law became alert. They resisted the assailants, who were about to attack Hambir with sharp weapons. Bagad took out his service rifle but the assailants attacked him and escaped.
Senior PI Pratap Mankar formed two teams to trace the culprits. The police got to know that the accused were hiding in Panmala on Sinhagad road on the basis of CCTV footage and technical analysis. They laid a trap in the area and arrested the culprits. The accused confessed that they attacked Hambir due to an old enmity. The arrested are involved in crimes registered at various police stations in the city. Primary investigation revealed that the attack was carried out to establish the supremacy of the gang.
The action was taken under the guidance of CP Amitabh Gupta, Joint CP Sandeep Karnik, Addl CP Rajndra Dahale, DCP Sagar Patil, ACP RN Raje. Senior PI Pratap Mankar, PI Ashwini Satput, PSI Rahul Pawar, police personnel Mohan Kale, Nitin Jagtap, Sudhir Ghotkule, Anil Kusalkar, Amol Sarade, Sagar Ghorpade, Mangesh Borhade, Sanjay Vanave, Kiran Talekar, Dyana Badhe, Manoj Bhokar, Satish Mundhe and Shivaji Sarak took part in the action.
