The arrested accused have been identified as Ganesh Santosh Patil (41), his wife Jayashree Ganesh Patil (37), both residents of Indra nagar, Nashik and Harshal Shrikant Ghag. Ganesh at present is posted in the Nashik police department and had worked in Mumbai ACB six years ago.

On June 24, at 6 am, three people entered the residence of a deputy director of the town planning department in Karve Nagar. They took away the mobile of the official and pretended to take action. However, this information was given to a woman police officer who was on patrolling duty. After the Warje police reached there, they pretended to speak to a senior police officer and escaped.

While probing the case, the police examined the CCTV footage in the area. They found that a car was parked outside the residence of the official. The number of the car was found and later, it was discovered that it belonged to Ghag. When he was questioned, he gave information about Ganesh Patil.

Ganesh Patil knew that ACB had taken action against a deputy director of the town planning department and he had planned a similar action at the residence of another official in the hope of trapping him.
