Ex-serviceman arrested for duping 7 people of Rs 18 lakh under the guise of providing jobs in Pune Zilla Parishad

Pune: Deccan ExpressPune Crime | A man who cheated seven people of Rs 18 lakh 13 thousand by promising them jobs like attendant and driver in Pune Zilla Parishad was arrested by the Viman Nagar police. (Pune Crime)


The accused has been identified as Namdev Kanhu Jayabhaye (57), a resident of Air Force station. Jayabhaye has retired from the army.


A 60-year-old resident of Ambajogai has lodged a complaint at the Viman Nagar police station. The incident happened at Air Force Chowk from March to April 2013.


According to the police, the complainant’s son-in-law is the army and he had been appointed at the Southern Command. In 2013, he got acquainted with Namdev Jayabhaye who was working in Air Force Intelligence school. He came to know that Jayabhaye gets jobs for youths because of his contacts.


He told the complainant that there are vacancies in Pune Zilla Parishad for the posts of attendants, drivers and others. If documents are given, Rs 2.5 lakh will be charged for driver’s post and Rs 3 lakh for attendant’s post.


The complainant gave Rs 19 lakh 50 thousand for securing jobs for his son and six relatives. When they did not get the jobs, he sought his money back. He was given a cheque of Rs 19 lakh. However, the cheque bounced for lack of funds in the account. When he again asked for money, he was given Rs one lakh and 37 thousand. However, he did not return the remaining amount. When the complainant asked for money, he was given a bond paper in which it was written that remaining money will be returned in three months. He sent a legal notice to the complainant accusing him of forcibly taking a bond paper by forcing him to drink alcohol.


The complainant has lodged a complaint with the police and API Lahane is probing the case.
