Pune: Deccan Express – Pune crime | An 18-year-old girl was given cigarette burns and was molested by two men. However, the victim wanted to hide facts and lodged a complaint at the Bund Garden police station. She did not want her parents to learn about the incident as she came to Pune for an interview.
According to the police, the young woman hails from Akola and stays in Hinjewadi. Initially, she lodged a complaint stating that she was travelling by an auto-rickshaw, in which the auto man’s friend was also sitting. They tried to molest her, when she resisted, they gave her cigarette burns and beat her up.
The complaint gave police a tough time while searching for the culprits. They also examined the CCTV footage from the place, where she claimed the incident happened. However, there was no sign of any auto-rickshaw plying on the road at that time. Hence, the police got suspicious. They also realised that she was not speaking coherently.
Later, the victim was counselled by a woman police officer, who took her into confidence asked her to state all facts regarding the matter. Then, the victim narrated the true story.
On April 5, she was in her room when two unidentified youths entered her room on the pretext of exchanging the water jar. One of the youths embraced her. The complainant threw a utensil at him. Then the other youth caught hold of her and threatened her that if she did not allow them to have sex, she would be burnt. One of them tried to give her cigarette burns on her arm. She gave a jerk and freed herself and again threw a hot utensil at the youth. The first one tried to molest her by undressing and kissing her.
Following investigation, the police came to know that one of the accused is known to the complainant. Later, they asked her to file a molestation complaint at the Hinjewadi police station.
