PSI held in Mumbai for seeking a bribe of Rs 37 lakh and accepting Rs 7 lakh in rape case

Mumbai : Deccan Express   – A shocking incident has come to light on the eve of the International Women’s Day. A police inspector convinced a woman not to lodge a rape complaint and demanded a bribe of Rs 37 lakh. He was caught accepting a bribe of Rs seven lakh by ACB officials. The PSI has been identified as Bharat Laxmanrao Mundhe (33).


He is at present posted at NM Joshi Marg police station in Mumbai. According to the ACB, a rape complaint has been registered at the NM Joshi Marg police station. Bharat Mundhe was probing the case. He contacted the accused and sought a bribe for not arresting him. He threatened to make his relative a co accused in the case.


Later, Mundhe met the complainant and convinced her not to complain against the accused. He demanded Rs five lakh for himself, Rs 2 lakh for the senior PI and Rs 30 lakh for the complainant totalling Rs 37 lakh as a bribe.


Later, the accused lodged a complaint with the ACB. It was checked on March 4. It was found that Bharat Mundhe had sought a bribe of Rs 37 lakh. He was caught red handed accepting a bribe of Rs 7 lakh.


In many jat panchayats, a rape case is hushed up after fining the accused for a few thousand rupees.


The incident has created a flutter since it took place on the eve of the international women’s day
