Dattawadi corporator booked in suicide abetment case

A man resident of Dattawadi area allegedly committed a suicide. Police have booked corporator in the case.

According to police, the 53-year-old man took the extreme step after a local corporator threatened to demolish his house. An FIR has been registered by Pune city police against corporator Anand Rithe of Bhartiya Janata Party of Dattawadi ward.

As per the police, the deceased has been identified as Sanjay Mahadev Surve. Recently, deceased installed a mobile tower on his residence. When the corporator came to know he allegedly started demanding money not to take any action on the the tower installed at his home.

Later when Surve refused to pay the money, Rithe complained to the municipal corporation following the complaint, the officials from Civic body on 10th June demolished the tower.

After demolishing tower, Rithe started threatening Surve of dire consequences for not paying him money. He also threaten him to demolish his house.

Police said that fed up with the constant pressure Surve took extreme step and died by suicide. He was found hanging. Later his son lodge a complaint with Dattawadi Police station. Police said further investigation is going on.
