Pune : -Cyber fraud | In a shocking cyber fraud, a city-based doctor has been cheated of over Rs 1.49 crore by promising to give financial returns on his insurance policies. The incident took place from 2017 till date.
The doctor, a resident of Bibvewadi, has lodged a complaint with the Cyber police in this regard. According to the police, the cyber fraudsters were in touch with the victim from 2013. They used to send him emails from different email IDs. They would also call him up. They won his confidence by promising to give him financial returns on his policies. Then they frequently made him deposit money in various bank accounts. Every time they made different promises before asking him to deposit money. Later, they started blackmailing and extorting him.
Thus, the fraudsters cheated him by compelling him to deposit over Rs 1.41 crores in 41 accounts in 18 different banks. PI Ankush Chintamani is investigating the matter.
